Age of Participants: 5-12 years
Time Allotment: 30 minutes
Materials needed:
- different colored tissue paper
- wax paper
- liquid starch (water + cornstarch)
- scrap paper/newspaper to cover table and to prevent mess
- paint brush
- tape
Objective: to expand the children’s thinking in a fun visual way, experiment with new materials and ideas and make a beautiful craft/home decoration
Class Breakdown:
- 5 minutes of introduction of activity, demonstration, and expectations
- 20-30 minutes of activity
- 5 minutes clean-up
Instructions:
- Tear tissue paper into small pieces.
- Lay scrap paper down on table, and tape wax paper to it.
- Brush liquid starch all over the wax paper
- Dip piece of tissue paper in liquid starch, then brush more liquid starch over the piece. Keep doing this until wax paper is covered in different colored pieces of tissue paper.
- Set paper aside to dry.
- Clean up and debrief.
